1-7 April 2025 – Our long-time (27 years!) collaborator Ellis Loew was with us at Austevoll. His visit was supported by the KNOWSANDEEL project. He worked with the team to characterize the spectral sensitivity of the eyes of sandeel from larvae through juveniles to adults using the microspectrophotometer that he built for us. Preliminary results indicate that all stages have mainly blue and green cones and a rod photopigment that is slightly wavelength shifted. Watch for these results in a forthcoming publication on light sensitivity in sandeel!
