25-28 November 2024 – The annual team retreat was held at Flødevigen. Most of the team, and associated colleagues, participated: Torkel Larsen, Ben Ellis, Marthe Stendal, Alessandro Cresci, Kim Halvorsen, Anne Berit Skiftesvik, Caroline Durif, Howard Browman, Rolf Korneliussen, Tonje Sørdalen, James Poling, Guosong Zhang and Reidun Bjelland.
Over four days, we shared good meals, listened to updates on our ongoing projects, and generated several exciting ideas for new projects and proposals on a wide range of topics for eventual submission to the NFR’s FRIPRO program and for the European Research Council. Among the ideas that were developed were projects on understanding the triggers of key life history transitions in marine species and on understanding the effects of light pollution on wrasse population dynamics and behaviour. We also familiarized ourselves with the facilities and colleagues at Flødevigen.
Howard and Anne Berit spent some time reflecting, being philosophical and offering general advice during a “mentor’s corner”.
Howard gave a talk on “Sensory ecology and behaviour in support of environmental impact/risk assessment, fisheries and aquaculture”, and Alessandro shared his recent findings on “Assessing the impact of offshore wind on early-life stages of fish: a site-independent research framework”.
