16-18 March 2026 – Otoliths and project updates were discussed during a productive ECOLUMP workshop (held at Austevoll and later at Solstrand Fjord Hotel). You will find a description of the ECOLUMP project HERE. The aim of the project is to determine the population structure and migratory strategies of Atlantic lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus). We had the pleasure of hosting project collaborators Françoise Daverat (INRAE) and Vincent Balter (ENS-Lyon) who visited the station and delivered interesting talks. Their presentations highlighted how calcified structures can reveal life history traits in past populations of brown trout (Francoise), as well as how teeth and other hard tissues can be used to reconstruct habitat use and life histories in both ancient primates and fish (Vincent). Felix presented an update on his PhD work. During the workshop that followed participants combined results from genomics and otoliths microchemistry and discussed progress in the project and its alignment with our initial hypotheses.
