The Austevoll Research Station maintains a 25 000 m3 saltwater pond facility for high volume production of zooplankton as a food source for larval fish. The pond is stocked with copepods, predominantly species of Acartia and Centropages, which can be size fractionated and collected using a wheel filtration system. Access to live copepods as a food source for larval fish is an improvement over the use of rotifers, Artemia, and formulated feeds.
